Music is filled with technicalities, but once stripped away, it is a beautiful, creative playground. In such a space, one does not have to worry about accentuating certain notes or aspects. The emotions are what matter. Play into all the tones, textures, and rhythms in a way that best flutters our hearts. Important pieces that enrich a wistful connection within each and every one.
After constructing streams of clubby IDM on her past two projects, Yetsuby – also known as Yejin Yang – decides to take sounds into a spin. Inspired by her sister’s childhood sketches, she has turned her sound into a free-spirited electronica on 4EVA. An electrified spontaneity dipping into ambient in one moment and breakbeats the next. An album that embraces varying energies, but all link to one heartwarming connection.
Yetsuby plays with tones in the endless sandbox of this release, stumbling in and out of explorations, from quiet bliss to fiery movement. The soft chops of vocals floating across a thumping beat of FLY create a graceful warmth that can’t be disturbed. SOUNDCLOUD is then an anthem of disruption as sharp breakbeats slither around wry noise and vocal chops. Aestheti-Q retreats back to a warm, youthful abandon, taking the glistening tune and the glitched points of the past two songs respectively, and blending them like a child mixing clashing colours.
The album artwork reflects the textures being incorporated into 4EVA. Lush floras and the strange, shiny scenery simultaneously embody the organic and the unnatural. Two worlds that can co-exist together. The chimes of the title track elevate the ethereal atmosphere before the sharp drums pulse to the forefront; the strings of Where Is My… act as a tender presence around the steady drums and repeating vocal strings; and the bright keys that reverberate across the brushes of buzzing synths of aaa1 and the chipper IDM of aaa2.
I AM ends the project with a newfound spirit. Collecting all the light that comes from finding joy in pairing contrasting tones and textures, where each combination brings a unique spark. The song brims with a bubbly beat, hopping around waves of chirping coos, processed samples, and playful synth pads. Letting Yetsuby’s creativity flow in the playground. Gently swaying, curiously frolicking, and happily hopping around.
With everything compiled together, 4EVA solidifies the carefree connections that she has made in her world. Contrasting natures form a relationship that can’t be segmented, only deepened. A beauty that cherishes one's differences, becoming resplendent when paired with another. Such remarkable energies won’t exactly last 4EVA, but the emotions will. Always will.
