Dive deep into slushwave with us…
The eighth edition of listencorp explores a fast-growing internet genre. Branching off from vaporwave, we chart the story of its pioneer t e l e p a t h テレパシー能力者 and those that have refined the sound in interviews with desert sand feels warm at night, days of blue skies and label owners. We cement slushwave’s place in the larger ambient music canon and interview those that make up its lively and friendly online community.
From here, we venture even deeper into the ambient “other space”, making sense of dreamtone, a genre title under which artists explore drone-type soundscapes. Through experiential descriptions, interviews with artists, label owners and fans, and an exploration of ambient music, this cover feature places slushwave artists within their rightful musical canon.
From there, to beautiful rural spaces haunted by otherworldly ghosts, we offer readers an interview with Light Blending In, a Canadian ambient artist honing a sound that somehow combines the lush elegance of nature with electronic music’s penchant for ethereal exploration. He tells us the story behind his impressive dual albums, Moontide and Voyager 92, and the role photography plays in finding his unique uncanny melodies.
As Geometric Lullaby releases its second “Collections” series, featuring artists such as 猫 シ Corp. and desert sand feels warm at night, we feature an interview with label owner Dennis. He regales us with his involvement in the return of t e l e p a t h テレパシー能力者, the current climate of physical releases within the vaporwave and vapor-adjacent communities, and tells us the albums he dreams about releasing.
From there, we venture into reviews from a host of talented artists. We analyse the new releases by 猫 シ Corp. and Psicadence, further cementing this edition as a slushwave must-have. We explore the latest release by John Zobele under his Meta alias, an RVNG release from Frances Chang that combines toy sentimentality with diary-esque confessions, and other recent and upcoming releases.
