DIVE INTO THE ICY DRIFT…

In #008 we chart the story of vaporwave with the help of a host of voices. Starting from its beginnings, very much pioneered by the legendary t e l e p a t h テレパシー能力者, we analyse the artist’s sound before exploring the artists that it gave rise to.

We stop to dissect the history of the echo and its place in music production, the emotions it invokes and how they play out in slushwave.

From there, with the help of desert sand feels warm at night, days of blue skies, label owner Vinicius Neves and Z.E.R.O, and Reinka, we discover how it transformed from a peripheral sub-genre to a bustling community of music-makers, listeners and collectors.

FURTHER INTO BLISSFUL NOTHINGNESS…

Floating past slushwave and into more unknown territory, we chart a course for dreamtone, a vestigial genre dedicated to drone ambient with vaporwave-adjacent visuals.

We venture into its founding statement and recognisable releases, speaking with Victory Over Death and memorykeeper7 to try to understand its beauty.

THE OTHERWORLDLY CALM OF NATURE…

In a similar vein, Dom Lepore sits down with Canadian ambient artist Light Blending In off the back of an incredible trio of releases, Moontide, Voyager 92 and Illusion of Time to find out how haunted mountains inspire the ominous elegance of his music.

CRAFTING DARK SHAPES…

Nick Caceres catches up with Dennis Mikula, the owner of Geometric Lullaby, the label that brings so many vaporwave-adjacent masterpieces into physical form to find out about their latest cassette drop, the label’s part in the return of t e l e p a t h テレパシー能力者 and the albums they dream about releasing.

To add to these features, this magazine includes reviews of 猫 シ Corp., Psicadence, Alegria™, Frances Chang, Arca and Semiratruth.
